LESLIE AND JASON

Leslie & Jason yearn to adopt. We are hoping to adopt a baby of any race because we feel that skin color does not make a family. We hope that you feel the same way.

We are ready to adopt! We have a valid Home Study. Expenses Paid.

To Someone Special,

We are Jason and Leslie. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us here.  We are deeply grateful to be considered as adoptive parents for your baby.  We promise that with us your child will always be safe and loved unconditionally. Your child will know how much you love them and your decision will be honored every day in our home.  We are interested in an open adoption and figuring out what you feel comfortable with.  We believe it’s important that your child knows where they came from, has the opportunity to cherish their heritage and be able to explore their identity with all the support and encouragement we can provide.  We promise that with us, your baby will have our total commitment to the best education and health care, and plenty of time and support for discovering all their special talents and interests.  We promise to nurture your child with all our love and care, and with all the love, care and commitment of our families.  Our sisters, brothers, parents, nieces and nephews are all waiting along with us to bring a new child in to our family.  We hope with these pictures and words we can provide you with an idea of what life would be like for your baby with us.

Why adoption?  We have always discussed the possibility of adoption, even before we were married and suffered years of infertility.  We have many close adult friends that were adopted and more friends that have created their families through adoption of all types—transracial, domestic, and international.  We strongly believe in the beauty of adoption and we feel very prepared to support your baby in all that adoption means and requires.  Your baby will be welcomed into our home as a cherished member of our family with our whole family to adore and care for them. We believe in the benefits of an open adoption for many reasons, and we are prepared to explore what that would mean with you.  We are open to and welcome any ethnicity.

We are waiting patiently to find our match with you.

Love,

Leslie and Jason

How We Met

We were introduced by friends over 14 years ago. We were both in Switzerland at an art fair for work. At the time Leslie was working for an art gallery and Jason was a young artist. Though Jason had spotted Leslie from afar we were introduced at a party later that week. When we first met Leslie was not as interested in Jason as Jason was in Leslie, but we ended up dancing for hours that night and when Jason walked Leslie back to her hotel we shared their first kiss. At the time we were living in different cities but we stayed in touch and went out on our first official date a few weeks later when Jason was visiting Leslie in New York. We went to a sushi dinner and took a long walk around the city and from that moment on Jason and Leslie shared a strong connection which grew into a relationship and eventually marriage. We continued to date long distance for five years. Jason finally moved to be closer to Leslie's once he was done with art school and they were engaged a year later. We have been married now for six years and counting.

Our wedding was an incredible day and night in Upstate NY at Jason’s family home. We were married between two giant trees surrounded by all our family and closest friends. We danced all night and finished the evening by eating fried chicken and waffles.

Our partnership is very solid, and we have the ultimate respect, trust and love for one another. This is the foundation to our family. We hope very much that you can be a part of blessing us with your child.

Our Crazy Adventures

We love to travel and all of our vacations involve family. We love to visit cities to eat new food and go sightseeing—we love any kind of cultural and educational experience, from rug shopping in Morocco and eating the merchant’s home made couscous to visiting Nelson Mandela’s jail cell on Robin’s Island in South Africa. We work in the arts so we spend a lot of time seeing museums, galleries, and sightseeing. We travel as a family and with friends, and we can’t wait to share all of these experiences with your child.

Family Matters Most

We both come from large, loving families that are the center of our worlds. We spend a lot of our free time with our families. Days after our wedding, we discovered that we were six weeks pregnant with the baby that would become our beautiful son Silas, who is now five years old and in school. Silas is so excited for a baby brother or sister. Silas is waiting to love and snuggle and teach all he knows about finger painting, building blocks, decorating the Christmas tree, skate-boarding, and more!

Jason’s parents, Peter and Jill, live in NY and are very hands on with Silas—they are always around to take Silas to the museums, Central Park, and his favorite diner called Three Guys. They love to help and we can always count on them. Leslie’s sister Alex (Leslie has four sisters and a brother) also lives in town with her husband Ernesto and son Benji. The boys are very close in age and get to play together all the time—more along the lines of argue like brothers! Jason’s brother Ben lives just five minutes away from us and loves to visit and play with Silas, he is our very cherished ‘Uncle Ben’. Leslie’s mom Mara recently moved to NY and lives downstairs from Alex and now we get to have family dinners all the time and eat Mara’s famous guacamole.

We are very close with all of Leslie’s sisters, mom and dad, and her sister's husbands and children. Family is and always has been a top priority in our life. Leslie has dreamed all her life to have children and be a mom. Her parents instilled a deep gratitude for the privilege of having a big family with many siblings to count on to be her most trusted friends, confidents, and support network. Leslie has two nieces, three nephews. Natalie, Rick and Karina live in LA. Emilie, Rodrigo, Arthur and Beatriz live in Miami. Alexandra, Ernesto and Benji live in NY, and JJ, Patrick and William live in Boston. Leslie's mom moved from San Francisco recently to NY and her dad lives in San Francisco with his wife Anisya and their son Adam. Despite the fact that Leslie and her sisters live all over the country, we are together always for Christmas, New Years, and all the important events in our lives: weddings, graduations, and birthdays. And everything in between. Leslie and her sisters try to have the cousins all together as much as possible so the really know one another like brothers and sisters.

Jason grew up in New York City. His father's work took the family to Japan where they lived for three years when Jason was seven years old. His mother Jill worked until he was in high school as a jewelry designer. His father Peter still works in finance. Jason has one younger brother, Ben, who is six years younger than Jason. Jason's parents instilled a strong work ethic and love of art from an early age. As boys, weekends were spent going to museums and art galleries which eventually led to Jason's studying and becoming an artist. While academics were important his family Jason loved the theatre most and spent long hours reading plays and his parents would take him to the theater. Jason also loved sports and played ice hockey and wrestled in school and still snow boards avidly in the winters as an adult. He spent every summer at camp where he learned how to do many different sports and activities his favorite of which was canoeing. He and his fellow campers would take long canoe trips that would last upward of 16 days. Jason particularly cherishes his many memories at camp as some of the most special and impactful of his youth. Jason is very grateful for the many interests and activities he was exposed to as a kid and believes that as a parent one of the most important things you can do for a child is to expose them to every opportunity so they can find and pursue their own passions.

Holiday Joy

Holidays are very big on both sides of our families. Christmas takes place over the whole month of December. We decorate the house with lights, garland, flowers, and Christmas scented candles, and most importantly a large Christmas tree. We always spend the holidays with both of our families celebrating Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s with our parents, sisters, brothers, and all the kids. We love to see all the holiday shows: the Nutcracker, The Holiday show at Madison Square Garden, The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, and more. We have a gingerbread decorating party with Silas's school and neighborhood friends at our home which is a crazy candy explosion. Santa comes to visit the kids every year at Leslie’s mom Mara’s house and he reads ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and hands out gifts. The kids love it. With Jason's family we always decorate the tree together at Peter and Jill's house. Jill has a tradition of using ribbons tied into bows to decorate her trees and has an extensive collection of ornaments that she has collected for 30 years from around the world. We spend Christmas morning together opening gifts and eating a ham that Peter cooks himself--it's truly a masterpiece!

For the last few years we and our closest friends have started celebrating Friends-giving. Each family volunteers to cook a different item and between all of us we end up have a huge pot-luck meal. Jason always cooks the turkey and takes it very seriously. He has his favorite turkey cooking methods but often tries out new techniques to see exactly how juicy and tender he can get it. Each year a different family hosts at their house--this year will be at our house. It's a lovely afternoon full of children, laughter and food. All the kids run around being crazy, and the adults get to hang out, talk, and listen to music. We decorate the table all together with flowers and toys and surprises for the kids. It's a sweet tradition that we plan to keep going for many years to come.

Halloween has become one of the most fun holidays in our family now that Silas is old enough to appreciate and experience all the fun Halloween stuff we do like visiting the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, decorating the house, picking out a costume and trick or treating. Our neighborhood is amazing for Halloween. We start at the parade in our neighborhood complete with a costume contest and a marching band. The kids follow the marching band along the waterfront through the park and back to the Arch at the center of our neighborhood. It’s full of kids, families, music and candy. We then go up the hill to Brooklyn Heights where they shut down the streets so that the kids can freely walk around from house to house. The homes are all decorated and there are tons of families walking around to trick or treat and see all the festive decorations. It’s really fun!

During the fall, we also love to celebrate Dia de los Muertos and do fun things like going to see the leaves changing upstate, and going for a hay ride. We use any excuse to celebrate with friends, family, be outside and enjoying the holidays whether it’s the Fourth of July or Easter. We have cherished family traditions for each holiday to make it fun for the kids!

Hang Time

Our friends are a huge part of our daily life. They support and inspire us, our children play together, we cook together, we travel together, we play and watch sports together, and so much more! And there is plenty that we do just as a family whether it’s exploring our own town as tourists, going to the play park, searching for the best pizza in town, going to see the Rangers play hockey, or just spending time together in our home doing puzzles, building castles with blocks, experimenting in the kitchen and playing board-games. These pictures will give you an idea of what our weekends are like here in the city and who the people who are who are our nearest and dearest outside of our family. These places, activities and friends will play a big part in the life of your child, should you so generously chose to bless us.

Home Sweet Home

We live in Brooklyn, NY close to the water. We are a three minute walk to a huge park with multiple playgrounds, soccer fields, public, beaches, bike paths, a climbing wall, children's museum, a carousel, restaurants and more. We love having immediate access to so many activities and such fantastic outdoor space. Our home has three bedrooms and plenty of space for kids to run around—one bedroom waiting to be turned into a nursery. We have a work space for the kids to make art and a play room filled with books, games, blocks, and legos. It's important to us that our home is warm and comfortable and filled with food, plants, animals and the memories and objects of our experiences and traditions. Our walls are filled with art, our shelves with art books and novels, Jason's record collection, and objects and textiles we have found from around the world. There is always a puzzle in the works on the coffee table. Our home is the center of our lives, and we love to feel we always have a safe and warm place to call our own and return to ever day and night.

Jason’s Thoughts on Leslie

From the minute I met my wife I knew she was a beautiful challenging woman and I admire her every day. Leslie is a compassionate partner and mother. She is an intellectually curious learner that spends her days voraciously taking in culture and information. She is the most incredible mother to our son and partner to me. Her first priority every day is to support and love her family. Everything my wife does is in pursuit of building a loving family and a partnership. What I love most about Leslie is how vigorously she goes after what she wants. If she wants to become informed about a particular subject I will come home to a pile of books and documentaries. She's very good about setting her mind on a task or goal and doing everything she can to achieve it. This is important to me because she sets an example for our family and children to pursue their interests with excitement and passion.

Leslie’s Thoughts on Jason

Jason is a sweetheart and a generous man. He is the best dad I could have ever imagined. He’s also an accomplished artist, loyal friend, dutiful son, reliable brother, and truly wonderful husband and life partner. He is creative, fun, funny, and always full of ideas about where to go, what to eat, and which sneakers to be wearing. He has become an expert in many things and dedicates himself wholeheartedly to his hobbies including golf, snowboarding, cooking, and sneaker collecting. He loves music and collects records. We spend many mornings making coffee and listening to records and dancing around the living room together. When cooking meals he loves to spend hours shopping to find each perfect ingredient for the elaborate meals he cooks for us. He is an avid bbq'er. He can spend hours preparing and smoking meat. Jason is an attentive, responsible, and sensitive husband and father. He races into action whenever anyone is sick, going to the pharmacy, calling the doctor, bringing us anything we need, and making sure we are well taken care of. He makes every day fun, exciting, and full of life and activity for Silas, and I know he would do the same for your child. He is very hands on in Silas’s care—cooking dinner, reading books at bedtime, taking him to school and his regular activities. He makes all kinds of plans for the weekends full of things that are positive learning experiences and fun experiences for a kid. In a lot of ways he is like a big kid! The best most responsible dad who is not afraid to get down and dirty with the kids.

Our Life in Dogs

We are a dog loving family and currently have two dogs, Doris and Lyle. Doris is three years old and she loves to steal toys from Lyle. She is small but she thinks she is a big dog. We rescued Lyle from Korea a year ago. He is two years old. He is crazy smart and really sweet. He loves to chase Doris around the house and make sure she knows who is boss. We love having animals in our lives. We would have a dog farm if we could! Jason grew up with dogs and Leslie grew up with dogs, cats, birds, fish, and chickens. Caring for animals and having them in our home is a joy in our lives. We want our children to experience the friendship and love of an animal and to learn the respect and responsibility in caring for another life.

Our Thoughts on Parenting

We will raise our family to be respectful and compassionate towards all people and with a deep sense of gratitude for all of the blessings we have been given in this life. Some of our most cherished values are honesty, friendship, forgiveness, patience, resilience, and hope.

Education, hard work, and dedication to our chosen fields are a core foundation in our lives. We will compassionately nurture our family throughout their schooling by supporting their unique learning styles at each age to help develop a structure and foundation for discovering their talents and interests. Of course life brings challenges and is wholly unpredictable. There are unexpected or unwelcome experiences around each corner for every person. We want our children to have the skills, the grit and the wherewithal to weather the difficult moments. We can parent by example in how to accept, process and ultimately use any adversities to grow, learn and become a stronger person.

We believe in each child's uniqueness and individuality, and as parents want to support that personal exploration throughout their lives. Our children will know they are valued and they are loved no matter what, unconditionally. They will know that their uniqueness is always accepted, appreciated and celebrated.

We promise to ourselves and our children that will be the generators of joy in their lives, and help them learn how to create joy in their own lives as they grow up. We promise to ourselves and our children to be resources for experience, knowledge and support. And when it’s time to start learning from our kids we promise to do that too.

We want our kids to be active, responsible participants and citizens in the world. We will lead by example through our own actions and activities whether spiritual, social or political. We understand the world is a complicated place and that we have grown up very privileged. We will help our children to navigate this complex world through their opportunities but more importantly by understanding other's adversities.
